This is all the personal opinion of the owner of this website, with preferences and biases.

Note that my ratings mostly focus on his scenes, not necessarily the show as a whole.
Overall quality is taken into account, but this should not be taken as judgement of the entire cast and crew.
Titles marked with a heart ♥ are basically must-watch, because of his involvement and overall quality.

Some old shows that are hard to find elsewhere may have YouTube links.

This guide only includes films and TV-episodes. It does not include radio, voice-over, or behind-the-scenes content.

Summary: Our time-travelling adventurers are here to save the earth from an alien virus.

Matthew plays: An astronaut who’s abducted and infected with an alien virus, and whose husband comes to rescue him.

Worth watching?: I’m extremely biased, but I was in tears by the end, so absolutely yes. A somewhat weak Doctor Who episode, but for Matthew fans, it’s great.

Warnings: Very mild body horror, but it’s a family show so that’s it.

TV: Deadwater Fell (2020) ♥

Summary: Good old murder mystery, set in a large country house in 1975.

Matthew plays: Major Allerton. Sort of semi-skeevy, smug, seducer of women.

Worth watching?: Sure. His part isn’t particularly remarkable or large, but Poirot is a good series if you like old timey murder mysteries. Also if you want to hear him say ‘old chap’ a lot. Poirot episodes are generally standalone.

TV: Misfits (2010-2012) ♥

Rating: Personal favourite. 😍

Involvement: Every episode from the season 2 finale, until episode 2 of season 4. Supporting character, has an episode focused on him.

Summary: A freak storm gives random people superpowers. A group of young offenders on community service deal with this. Time travel, zombies, bodyswaps, alternate timelines, lots of superpowers. Surprisingly hilarious, usually ridiculous, sometimes very moving.

Matthew plays: Seth, the power dealer. Mysterious and distant at first, turns out to be an awkward cutie in mourning over his girlfriend.

Worth watching?: Gosh, yes. But this was my introduction to Matthew, so I’m biased.

Warnings: Varies a lot per episode. Nsfw, gore, sexual assault/rape, murder, drug use… Would recommend looking up more detailed warnings elsewhere. Often offensive.

Lots of wonderful interpersonal drama between working class characters who’ve suddenly become millionaires, and how it changes their life. Some non-linear storytelling where you get the same events through different characters’ eyes.
